This is what I was told "Do not flirt with your intellectual capabilities. You will lose focus and waste your energies". I wonder if they could say that to Leonardo Da Vinci - "Stick to your paintaings. We don't need your helicopters".
This happened in my interview with a company that had come to my campus for recruiting interns for their summer projects. My fault - I had 4 years of IT experience and I was trying to convince them that I wanted to play a part in their supply chain systems.
Reality pinches. But this incident goes to demonstrate the short sightedness of a lot of recruiters. They look for virgin clay. Something that they can mould as they desire. I can't blame them for that. Thats why they come to pick students from school. I'm still coming to terms with what had gone wrong. Hey! if I had known that changing ships at a port of destiny is sacrilege, I wouldn't have taken the decision to travel. Nor would i have come to do an MBA. Making the transition from a purely technical guy in a narrow field of interest to a versatile manager across domains is proving to be painful. But then I thought that problems and solutions are universal. You just need the mind to connect both of them. The fact that you cannot participate in the proceedings of a particular culture or profession just because you were part of another for a prolonged period, even though you are a fit does not make sense.
I sign off here with what I believe - "The potential of the human mind is limitless". I will strive to realize mine. Hope you do justice to yours...
