Books to be read

With my placements round the corner, I find very little time to read anything other than my course books. My list of books to be read seems to be piling up. So much so that I have decided to list them here for later referral.

Memories of My Melancholy Whores
by Gabriel Garcia Marquez

The Fortune at the Bottom of the Pyramid: Eradicating Poverty Through Profits
by C K Prahalad

Life of Pi
by Yann Martel

Apologist
by Jay Rayner

Bartimaeus Trilogy
by Jonathan Stroud

Wondering how soon I can get my hands on these...

Seabiscuit

One of the most interesting movies I have ever watched. Set during the times of the great depression, this movie has parallel storylines. One about the rise of a bunch of characters from nowhere to fame and the other about the resilience of the US economy. Seabiscuit is the story of a neglected horse which is bought by a business man grieving the death of his son, trained by a rustic man who had lived his life amongst horses and jockeyed by somebody who has the gift to understand the temperment of a horse.

Seabiscuit is the story of how a horse helps these people conquer their lives by helping each other out in times of need. Appropriate characters, perfect blend of drama in the right dose and cinematography and a fine storyline makes watching this movie a memorable one.

A good movie after a long time.

Life as usual...

20 days since my last post. Means I'm quite busy. And I guess, its gonna get busier.

The stock markets went down. Expected. Result season you dumbo! Rainy season is over and I just love it. Played cricket on the first day of the sun and knocked myself off. 4 stiches and 7 days of abstinence from play. Moments like these - I hate em!
Had the Alumni meet yesterday. Not interesting as last years. The food was pathetic.

Finished a book - "The Scam" by Debashis Basu and Sucheta Dalal. I bought it because of the picture of Sucheta on the back cover. Couldn't help stare at her complacent demeanor. The book was good though. An illustration of the fact that the big world of financial markets is full of mean-ol-wolves. Poor Harshad brought himself down by being over ambitious and unrespectful of the keepers of the market. Investigative reporting sure is an interesting career. Onto my next book - "India Unbound" by Gurcharan Das.

Planning to watch a couple of movies. Being in college thats the best thing to do. Watch lots of movies.

Life is blissful!
