Under Pressure!

Under Pressure by Queen

Pressure pushing down on me

Pressing down on you no man ask for
Under pressure
That burns a building down
Splits a family in two
Puts people on streets

Final Fantasy : Advent Children

There is nothing like relaxing to a good movie after days of rigour. Final Fantasy : Advent Children was nothing like anything I had seen before. Maybe the animatrix. But my vote goes out for this movie. A movie version of the game, this CG creation captures the attention of the viewer from start to end.

A decent storyline, bolstered with mind boggling cinematics, CG and gruelling fights all make it a edge of the seat action movie. The rendition of the characters were amazing, although they are far too perfect to be considered human. Ingenous effects and a well paced background score add to the glimmer of the movie. The final fight sequence where Cloud vanquishes his nemesis Sephiroth once and for all is a masterpiece.

A must watch for all those gamers and animation fans, while I go collect the other Final Fantasy episodes.

The Whiterabbit

The boxers enter the ring. The blue shorts is the champion. The wasp has never lost a match before and does not intend to lose this one either. Wondering whether he should tire him out or go for the kill.

The contender in red shorts, is an upcoming fighter who has never had it easy in life. The whiterabbit as he is called has been dodging punches since 9. He had met the champion only thrice. 3 years back on TV and 2 days back during the press conference. Last was 20 minutes back in the dressing room.

The wasp : I have seen your tapes. You look promising, but you will lose
The Whiterabbit : I know
The wasp : When I put you down, stay down

Round 6

"This kid is tougher than I thought. But a champ has got to do what a champ has got to do."

Commentator : Oh! oh! oh! The whiterabbit is keeping this match alive. True to a bunny, he is evading the champ and at this rate, he should last the whole 10 rounds. The champ looks tired, but he is waiting. Wait, I think he's moving in for the kill. The whiterabbit is being cornered. Punches are flying right and center. I can't see who is hitting whom.

And just when he felt the moment was right. The champ moves in. Distracts the bunny with a right show, opening up his defences. Block and right hook. The whiterabbit's punch meets thin air. He knew, it was over. It was only a matter of time. He waits.

"Thud." The left jab, the wasp's single most powerful weapon, has met its target. Dislodging the whiterabbit's jaw, sending him reeling over to the other side of the ring.

The wasp : And stay down!

Seconds later, the champ is all over the ring, acknowledging the crowd. Whiterabbit is still awake, watching his own blood spilled right before him. His right eye is crushed under the weight of his face. He blinks his left eye to refocus. Teeth shattered all over the place like shards of porcelain.

Should I get up? Should I fight? I don't think so. Maybe someother time. Maybe never.

The uproar of the crowd fades into the pitter patter of rain in his mind. The whiterabbit hums his favourite tune.

Riders on the storm
Riders on the storm
Into this house we’re born
Into this world we’re thrown
Like a dog without a bone
An actor out alone
Riders on the storm....

Warren Buffet - NextGen - Part 2

Life is full of uncertainities. I have always had a long term plan. Wanted to become a venture capitalist by 35. Not just to earn millions. But to help a few people realize their dreams. Have been planning it for the past 5 years and I'm inching towards that goal. I'm pleased with myself. However, for every step I take, I face numerous options requiring innumerous judgement calls. Too many permutations and combinations.

I had worked for 4 long years, quit my job which in no way can be called secure, to pursue an MBA and am halfway through it. I always believed that an MBA program would open up the horizons of knowledge and I'm glad it turned out true. Spent the past 18 months sharpening those skills required to realize my dream. Tried to team up with friends. Some combinations seemed to work, some did not. Finally, joined a friend to form an investment company. Well! Actually, we were trying to revive his father's defunct company and we are trying to create an avenue for close friends to invest. I'm happy to have made a modest start.

FMA strikes again

Another success for the Full Metal Alchemist. There is a cult evolving around this fascinating Japanese cartoon series in my institute. These days, dining table talks revolve around the adventures of the elric brothers, alchemy, anime, philosophy and many more things. People who have never before watched an anime with interest are now cramming for the latest episodes and try to guess whats in store for them in the future episodes.

Some have even gone ahead and explored other such anime serials, bringing in more adventure into hostel life. One of the characteristics of anime which impresses me more than the cartoons from the other side of the globe is the clarity with which the philosophy of life and death is portrayed. There are super heroes here, but they die too.

I watched the last episode of the Full Metal Alchemist a few days ago. One of the protagonists - Edward Elric, a boy of 16 gives his life up to resurrect his younger brother. He dies. All along I thought that he was one of those infallible, super human messiahs of truth and determination, indestructible and invincible in his own way.

Sad but true. Maybe we are able to relate to this character more because of the truth with which he portrays the laws of nature.

Watch and Learn

Yesterday's Sales and Distribution class was in eventful one. While explaining the concept of CAR (Context, Action and Result) my Prof. wanted a volunteer to come out with an example of an achievement and he promised he would help us put it across to an interviewer in an interesting manner.

As usual, the class went dumb and for about half a minute, he was roaming the class trying to get himself a volunteer. So much so that he distracted me from my book reading (Random Walk Down Wall Street) and I got into action.

"Sir, I think one of my greatest achievement was getting my 4-wheeler license with just 2 hours of driving practice". Up went the class, with the oooohs and aaahhs! One joker even said that he did it without any practice. To him - "Kiss my crippled ass! If it was so, you should have come out with it"

Anyways, the point I'm trying to make - Following a series of discussions and explanations, My prof. made me realise that it was an amazing gift I had. The ability to watch and learn. Observe, disassemble, reassemble. One of the attributes of a fast learner. My sensei once told me - the technique to learn good is to learn from a master and to learn first by watching your master perform and put to practice what you have observed.

One of the arts I have thus learned is investing. I enjoyed watching my papa invest in the stock markets and learnt it so well that 2 months into the stock markets, I was already making profits. Interesting attribute, but its the truth.

Observe, disassemble, reassemble!

Gospel of Thomas

Something interesting I picked up.

If you bring forth what is within you,

what you bring forth will save you.
If you do not bring forth what is within you,
what you do not bring forth will destroy you.

- Gospel of Thomas

The Truth

The view of the house from the hill top, however small and diminished, presents the ultimate truth. Devoid of interferences, it helps you focus and arrive at your own conclusions of what it is. Closeness or furtherness is bound to change your perspective depending on the strength of your vision and the existence of bias.

As you proceed towards the house, you tend to indulge in its surroundings and wander off in the disturbances created both by the objects in the vicinity and your own echoes bouncing off the canvas drawn by your vision. In the end, the truth is consumed and what is left is a figment of your imagination, a ruin riddled with your own imperfections and a dogmatic representation of how you would want it to be.

Full Metal Alchemist

People cannot gain anything without sacrificing something.
You must present something of equivalent value to gain something.
That is the principle of equivalent trade in alchemy.
